Part 1: The Art of Darkness I Listen

The struggle that many generations of black men and women have fought for their deserved equality, dignity, and humanity in the United States endures; in fact, it thrives, within the culture of an oppressed people who have been denied a voice for so long due to their skin color. The art, the music, the poetry, the culture of the black experience in America cannot be separated from this continual struggle for human rights, because they are one in the same. Join us as we listen to the poetic voices of the past, the present, and the future of the black experience in America with our guest, author of The Children Of Children Keep Coming  Russell L. Goings.

Part 2: The Art of Darkness II Listen

Our guest is Russell L. Goings, author of the extraordinary new book The Children Of Children Keep Coming.  In this griotsong, all the wonders, complexities, and unpleasantries of the Black experience in the United States are embodied in the verses of a shared history, forged by both slaves and freemen. Accompanying the prose of The Children Of Children Keep Coming, are many illustrations by the artist Romare Bearden, and it is this combination of the lyrical and the visual that allows for a fuller, more personal immersion into the nuances and perspectives of black life in America...
